The Angora fire down in South Lake Tahoe is now 40% contained. You can find more pictures of the fire at a variety of news sites, including the one you see here from the Reno Gazette Journal.

I like to go to the source and get the most up-to-date information from the California InciWeb site, an interagency wildland fire incident information management system. Another good site is the National Interagency Fire Center.

On Tuesday, June 5th, Royal Gorge met with the Placer County Planning Department to begin the official development process. Crystal Jacobsen, the planner assigned to this project for Placer County writes:

We did hold a meeting here at the County yesterday to discuss Royal Gorge’s interest in developing their properties on Donner Summit. The meeting went well; Royal Gorge gave a presentation regarding their project to the County and the County outlined or scoped out some preliminary issues regarding the project. Royal Gorge did submit some additional documents yesterday, however at this time they have not filed a formal project application and we are unaware of when they plan to do so.

We have received substantial preliminary public interest and inquires regarding Royal Gorge's interest to develop their properties, and because such, the County has created the following web page for the project which is linked to the County’s website:

This website contains the project status and related preliminary project documents, which the County has received thus far. Accordingly, we plan to add the project materials submitted yesterday; they will be posted shortly.

The new website contains a few new documents, including a modified version of the conceptual plan overview maps with a few more details on proposed roads and land usage. The project description contains brief proposals regarding water supply and effluent and a smattering of new information over and above what has already been released to the public including:

• 300 units in Lake Camp (100 medium density residential, 200 single family homes)
• 10,000 sqft Pt. Mariah Lodge
• 50 cabins in Wilderness Camp along with 3000 sqft cookhouse
• Use existing, improved but unpaved road out to Pt. Mariah with new bridge
• 18 homesite existing plan in Nevada County to be rolled into this proposal?
• Underground utilities for cable tv and phone, but broadband is not listed
