Our third of four 2016 DSAA Summit Clean-Up Days on Saturday September 17th went exceedingly well! Although lightly attended, we picked up enough stuff to fill half of a 4-yard dumpster donated by TTSD. Thanks to the residents who gave their time to help keep the Donner Summit roadways and environs looking good.
Saturday also saw the South Yuba River Citizens League Clean-Up Day , with more than two dozen folks showing up from the Nevada City area, eager to pick up stuff in and around the headwaters here at the summit. We worked from the east end of the reservoir bottom all the way to Cisco Grove. The balance of the dumpster held nearly two dozen bags of junk left in the waters behind the dam and in the river bed, including a credit card from 1993 and some antique cans and bottles. We also removed two large pipes from Upper Castle Creek that had washed down from the railroad tracks. There are still three engine blocks sunk into the reservoir bottom which we hope to retrieve later this Fall.
Our next DSAA clean-up day will be in December. Stay Tuned!
