Dear Sarah,
I'm sorry that I was not able to attend the Soda Springs Zoning meeting.
I received a copy of regulations relavent to Soda Springs from Pat Malberg, but it does not appear to apply to our ski lodge. Our club has owned and operated the building since 1961 after purchasing it from the owner of Beacon Hill Lodge, Elmo Moriani.
I am seriously concerned that your effort to develop a community center may affect our continued existence. A snow drought is bad enough. Conflict with Nevada County will be much worse.
Sincerely,
William Zschaler

Hi - I recently found your PDF map of the Placer County Overland Emigrant Trail. The map cuts off at Lake Valley Res. Do you have a copy that proceeds through Emigrant Gap (town)? I am trying to identify if Emigrant Gap was on one of the Emigrant Trails (I am pretty sure that the Donner Snowshoe Party came through EG but I have also heard that there was a route through Emigrant Gap to Blue Canyon and beyond prior to the Dutch Flat Donner Lake Wagon Road.

I have checked with the CPRR Historical Group and plan to go to Bancroft Library in Berkeley - but was hoping your map had this information.

My email - jguida@pacbell.net

1. The posted existing DSAA ByLaws are Articles of Incorporation (AoI); "bylaws" appears only in the last section (on amendments). Has there been an intermediate set of bylaws that bridges the gap between the AoI and the new proposal, or is the organization and title of the new proposal part of the set of "boilerplate" changes required by California law?
2. Hard-wiring the list of communities to be represented in DSAA may not be a good idea.
3. Is there no way to give the Board power to fill vacancies without taking voting powers away from the membership?
4. The size of the Board is variable; is there not enough flexibility within that range to accommodate the comings and goings of Board members between regular elections?

I believe the Truckee Trail, as part of the Oregon-California Trail, and as part of the Lincoln Highway, is protected under the National Trails Act. Survey, photos... clearly show the original alignment of the road and its progression from the emigrant trail, to the wagon road, to Hwy 37, Lincoln Hwy...

Thanks for your interest, Janice. The document has just been linked to the above article (see the final paragraph "download a copy"). It is also available through the DSPUD website, although a bit harder to find. We would love to help you follow up on any questions or comments you might have.
